First time chicken owner here. Learning so much.
I recently rescued 4 banny hens and purchased 6 assorted standard chicks. They are teaching me how to take care of them.
Still getting to know them. Each has their own personality, but, they all love to eat.
Mine seem to love shredded yellow squash, zucchini, celery, broccoli, watermelon, etc. They especially love the grubs and black beetles I find in the garden. They are crazy for crickets and live meal worms.
After reading some of the posts here, I am worried I am not providing enough protein for them. They get the age appropriate feed, but, I am thinking I need to break out the tuna and ground beef. Not clear.

[IMG] If you are feeding a balanced commercial ration, they are getting enough protein. Treats should make up no more than 10 % of their diet.

Sourland speaks the truth. Chicks are like kids - they would prefer to eat candy (bugs, treats etc) than their regular nutritious feed.
