Hi - my name is Alisa and I'm from Los Angeles, California...my husband and I moved to rural france (the Aveyron region, just north west of Toulouse) in October and we will be here until September. We took a sabbatical from our business. Our friend just gave us 2 hens (naked necks - Rhoda and Fanny) and a cock named Lefty..it's only been 6 days with them. We have an old shed by our house that I converted to their coop and I'm slowly figuring out (with much help) how to raise them, feed them, love them, etc..The hens are not at laying age now, was told they were close (there was a word for it, but it was in french). So glad this forum is here. It's an exciting adventure as I have always wanted chickens!

Hi Alisa, welcome to BackyardChickens! How exciting to be spending a year abroad.

Have the combs on your naked neck pullets turned bright red yet? That is a sign they are getting close to point of lay.

Oh, les poulets francais! Sounds like a lovely setup. We would dearly love to see pics - I have to admit I don't know anything about that part of France, so I'd personally love to see pics of landscape, house, outbuildings, whatever . . .

and, boy o boy are there chickens in L.A. these days! You'll go home an expert - I'm visiting my sister in L.A. in a month or so and I hope to help her get ready for a few backyard birds. . .

    a bientot!
