OK, you BYC'ers told me that the splash and black cochins I got a week ago were both cockerels. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/921729/two-new-cochins-what-gender I decided to hang on to the black one, and I took back the splash to trade for another one from the gentleman who had these. The cochins he was selling are between three and four months. Out of all the siblings he had left (one splash and a couple of each black and blue), the splash was the only one without a predominant comb and wattles, and was a good bit smaller than the others. This splash also did not have any red feathering in its wings like the one I started with. Here's the pics:
Here's the splash with the one black cockerel from the same batch that I decided to keep. You can see it's a bit smaller for the age and it's comb and wattles are smaller and still somewhat pink or flesh colored:
Did I make a good choice? Do I now have a pullet?
