I am new to hatching and raising chickens. We had one egg pip 6 days ago and hasn't progressed since then. You can see it breathe and hear it peep, but won't zip. So we assisted in hatching today, it is breathing and eyes open but won't move around. The feathers look wet but are crusty and it just lays there. There is also a green discharge, not sure what this is and what to do at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi :welcome

6 days is a long time for the chick to be pipped but not zip from the egg. Your chick is most like dehydrated as they only have yolk reserves for 48 - 72 hours. Wet and crusty feathers would suggest sticky chick. This is where the albumen (egg white) becomes stuck to the chick. Have you got the chick under heat? This is vital now, you also need to dip the beak in the water to encourage to drink. You can clean the chick up with some warm water but make sure it does not get a chill.

Good luck, I hope your chick is ok as I see you posted a few hours ago now.
