How come I can't find any chatter about the Newnan GA show feb 16-17? Who's excited? Who's going? Is this show worth a 8 hr drive? It looks good...

Is it the biggest show in the area?

I went to this show this past Feb. The show is large.... VERY large.
Is it worth the drive? ? ? I think it depends on what you are interested in.

There was a tent of serama chickens. The judging on that was awesome. It was done on a score card, one bird at a time, as you watched.

There was a tent of large fowl. They have had the most marans at one show that I have seen in the southeast. Newnan was the location of the show that allowed the Black Copper marans to become part of the APA a couple of years ago.

There was LARGE BARN full of bantams.

I was disappointed that there weren't more LARGE FOWL at this show. IF Seramas or Bantams are your cup of tea, you won't be disappointed. The show people were able to get a REALLY good rate at a local hotel too. I think this was part of the bonus to going to the show... You got to eat breakfast with folks that were there showing.

There is a large area for outdoor sales to. So, if you are selling... there are plenty of people there buying.

If large fowl is your cup of tea, you might want to start with the Lake City show in January....

Good info on the show thanks! Im surprised its in tents! Large or small breeds I like them all. I did show both sizes, but mostly bantams. I clerked at the show I used to be involved with that was 40 minutes away from me in Iowa. There was around 1200 birds shown there normally. I want to get involved again.

There doesn't seem to be a show that close to Jacksonville or St Augustine. As big as they are I thought there would be a show nearby.

I'd like to go to any big shows in the area and help at a show closer to me.

    Ok...

There is a show in Inverness, Fl in November. I haven't been to this one so I don't know how big it it.
    However, here is a link...

There will be a show in Lake City, Fl in Jan. This one I have been to. I don't think it will compare to your Iowa show, BUT it is one of the bigger ones around here. The following is information about it...

    Florida Sunshine Classic
Jan. 12-13, 2013 (always the second Saturday in January)
    438 SW State Road 247
    Lake City, FL 32025

You already know about the Newnan, Ga show in February...

I did the research a while back and there is a chicken show in South Carolina ( I think in March) that is actually closer to me than Newnan Ga. is. There are a couple of other chicken shows in Ga. too.

I'm a little confused about the post saying that you were disappointed in the number of Large Fowl in Newnan and to go to Lake City if you are interested in Large Fowl. Newnan is the largest Large Fowl show in the South. They have twice as many Large Fowl as Lake City. This past year Newnan had right at 400 LF and Lake City had right at 200. I attend both and enjoy both but Newnan is much larger as far as the LF go.

I am the poster in question and it sure didn't seem that way to me. I was at both shows too :) Without a doubt, Newnan had more birds overall. However, the large fowl were in that one tent, single stacked on the tables, and it just didn't feel as though there were as many as the Lake City show. There were WAY MORE Marans at the Newnan show, but I was disappointed in the amount of other large fowl birds.

Of course, I don't know the numbers. I am just going by how it felt walking around. Does the 400 count exclude the water fowl and other birds that were in the large barn area? It sure didn't feel like I looked at 400 large fowl birds... [IMG]
