Some interesting news articles I came across today and a few sad:

    http://beta.news.yahoo.com/blogs/upshot/pit-bulls-surprising-past-nanny-dogs-195612543.html

This website says German Shepherd has the strongest dog bite. However, I did more reading it seems to be first the Rottweiler or Mastiff, second the GS, and the third the Pit.

I really did not plan to get a pit bull, but we somehow ended up with one anyway. DH didn't want her....we were just helping out a friend who had a female and her young pup that he had to get rid of ASAP (city rules or some such nonsence). The mother dog was a barker. She barked pretty much non-stop. We found her a good home in the country, where she died saving her new owners 4 year old child from a rattlesnake. The child happened upon the snake in the back yard and "red" rushed inbetween the child and snake and took a few bad bites to her face and neck as she killed the snake. I feel bad about her death, but what a noble way to die. Anyway....back to the puppy. Hubby really didn't want her, but we kept putting off trying to find her a good home and before long, Bailey wormed her way into our hearts in a HUGE way. I have had a lot of dogs over the years, but never one as eager to please and as trainable as Bailey has been. She is great with my chihuahua, does not bother livestock or chickens, loves my grandson and adores my husband like he is her entire world. I have never seen my husband so deeply bonded with a dog in my life. Pit bulls are awesome animals.

Its so heartbreaking to see the extensive amount of pit bulls & pit mixes suffering & sitting in shelters.
I myself am a proud Pit Bull owner. I've lost count of how many times i have debating with someone over the fact that ANY dog is capable of biting and attacking.
Ive even been asked if my Pit Bull had two rows of teeth & demolished families whole in two bites.. [IMG]
My girl is great with my goats, sheep, chickens & ANY other animal she comes in contact with - even our pet rats.
They are a beautiful & totally misunderstood breed that needs all the help they can get !

I agree, mine is wonderful. The perfect dog for my family.

Here is my almost three year old, King.

Is their proper name American Pit Bulls or just Pit Bulls?

It is a shame that they get such a bad rap. My husband's parents and uncle ended up with a couple Staffordshire Terriors, and they have ended up being the sweetest dogs. Pitbulls and Staffordshires weren't bred to be horrible, killing machines. Unless they were poorly bred, they are sweet and loyal dogs. Heck - the inlaw's dog loves to wear a sweatshirt and wants to be covered with a blankie when she climbs onto her dog bed at night. She has been nothing but sweet with my little girl growing up, too.

Pit bulls are the best dogs! My girl Maggie is a red nose pit bull, and she is the sweetest dog! She always sleeps under her blanket, whether in bed or on the couch, and loves all little animals. At the moment she is helping me foster 3 orphan kittens who are about 4 weeks old. I feed the kittens and then my pit bull gives each of them a careful tongue bath. She is so gentle. And she never bothers my chickens. And she is great with kids. Here is my Maggie.

I personally love the bully breeds! I have a staffordshire/mix that I got from the shelter along with my other mutts. Told my husband when our oldest passes I will be giving another pit/mix a home. I just love them so much!

Anyone else addicted to the pitbulls and parolee show on animal planet ?? [IMG]
