Hi,

I have a Ameraucana who tends to lay from her roost at night. When she lays in her nest, they're normal, but her night eggs are broken or cracked from falling and always in a strange sack of clear fluid. Anyone else ever seen this?

How old is she and has she been laying long? I'm new to chickens myself, and (at least) one buff orpington hen started laying last week, at 21 weeks. When she has laid in the box, the egg was normal, but her night eggs were from the roost and soft-shelled. Like they were encased in stiff tissue paper. They are a light brown color, like the eggs -- I figure they were "immature eggs." I figure it will work itself out over the next couple of weeks.

Good luck!

She's one year old this week. Most of her night eggs were soft until I started giving them oyster shells. Now they're hard and normal except for that strange fluid sack encasing them.
