We live in Northern Vermont and have recently, September, found a home. We are curious as to what sort of chicken would be best. We love eating eggs, not chickens. Araucana eggs seem to suit us. Right now, in February, we are in the process of deciding what sort of coop would be best. We live in a spruce forest and we know there are coyotes in the neighborhood beside the usual foxes, raccoons, etc. Also we have a 6 month old Springer Spaniel who notices birds enough to watch them.
We have been told that he can be trained to guard our chickens instead of flushing them. Any helpful advice as to 1. coops 2. Springer Spaniel pups ??

Greetings from Kansas, and [IMG]! Pleased you joined our flock. Below are some links that may be helpful. For me, raising my chicks and allowing my dogs a lot of (supervised) access allowed the dogs to grow up to become the guardians and protectors of the chickens. Now I have no worries about the dogs doing anything harmful to them. Best of luck and have fun!
