    Hello,
I new to the chicken business. I purchased 30 chickens back in April and have yet to see the first egg :( They are healthy and are getting so big! I could set for hours just watching them but I would love to have some eggs!. Its Nov here in Va and Ive heard they dont lay as much in the winter but I would have thought I would have at least seen one egg by now. My flock includes some Barred Rocks, Rhode Island Reds, Ridge Rocks and some Americanas. Iam currently feeding them along with scraps of veggies and fruits 16% protein feed. Does anyone have any other ideas of what I could do? Or do I just wait it out? Thanks!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! That is odd you are not seeing any eggs with that many birds over six months (they were chicks when you got them?). You might want to post pictures of your flock if anyone can see anything that might be going on. You are free feeding them the 16% Layer food now and had them on chick starter before?

Did you give them any antibiotics in chick phase?some of the antibiotics they give for infection can sterilize your chickens if not in the right dosage. Some of the treatments put in their water can be easily misunderstood on dosage.

Thank you! :) I thought so too. Yes, I ordered most of them from the a hatchery when they were a few days old in April and we picked up about 6 of them that were a week old from the feed store the same month. They all look healthy (The Barred Rocks are huge!) and I have about 15 laying nests. I have pine shavings down for the bedding. The space I have them in right now is about 25x15 ft. This spring we plan to build a outside pen so they can roam out. I didn't know if the space thing might have something to do with it?? Yes, I had them on organic chick starter up until about 2 months ago then switched to the higher protein (Per the farm choice owner where I get feed) I will post a few pics soon. Also, I dont know if this has anything to do with is as well, but we just found out that we have 4 roosters in the mix! So, needless to say we are looking for new homes for all but 2 of them.

Thankfully, we haven't had to give them anything as they've been quite healthy and seem happy.

Needless to say, he took care of him and we have been seeing eggs every since. Has anyone else heard of them eating eggs? Makes me shiver...
