My girls would not go into their coop at night if they did not have the red light on. I guess this came from having the red heat lamp on all the time in the brooder. Anyway, the other night when I went out to close their pop door for the night and give them a little nightime scratch I decided to turn the red light off once I left just to see how that would react. I went out the next morning and everybody seemed ok. So I left it off. That night they went on in like it was normal. I guess I will save a little on the light bill.

YA! They are growing up! We finally shut our red light off at about 14 weeks of age. We tried earlier, but chaos ensued. Wing flapping, shrieking, crying, and general unhappiness. This time, they didn't care one little bit!
