I have 40 hens which do okay but I think my hyper rooster may be stressing my hens out he is always crowing seems like no matter what time of day or night he is constantly crowing could he be limiting the amount sleep/rest my hens need ??

I've never had a lone rooster to crow constantly. Only younger ones, low in the pecking order, who were unsure of their rank amongst the others.
Is he separated from the hens?
Shut him up by holdin his head down to the ground for several minutes and not letting him pick it back up. That is how a dominate male will show a rival to keep his place. In doing such, you are telling him that YOU are boss bird and settling any doubts in his head that cause him to crow.
That, or the lights need to be turned out so the birds can sleep.

    Welcome to the forum.

    Is the rooster young?
Are your hens still laying okay?

No you really need a rooster? Unless you need fertile eggs to sell or hatch, the girls will be happy without one. They will continue to lay just as many eggs although not fertile.

As you can see roosters are usually one problem or another (usually very aggressive) . There is no way he could be keeping all your hens producing fertile eggs to begin with, way too little rooster and way too many hens for him.
