Non-plastic waterer

Has anyone used this galvanized bucket waterer? What did the old timers use to water their chickens? I would like to avoid keeping the water in any kind of plastic.

We have a galvanized steel waterer very similar to the one you posted. It works ok, but the water evaporates quickly and the hens still make a mess in it. I didn't want to use plastic, either, but really love to use a hanging, covered plastic bucket with metal nipples similar to this (http://www.amazon.com/2-5-Quart-Chi...0825&sr=8-17&keywords=chicken+watering+system). It took a while for the chickens to find it and get used to it, but it's a clean system and I can go away for a weekend without worrying that they won't get enough water.

Well, you have given me an idea. I can try the galvanized bucket for everyday use and have the closed bucket with nipples if we go away for the weekend. Thanks!
