Now I know my pekins are not supposed to be laying yet but my Rouens haven't started yet and they are 25wks old should I not expect any from anyone till spring im at a loss with the ducks never had any that didn’t start laying on time

Our Welsh Harlequins are in their 24th week and show no signs of laying and we live in a very mild climate. It has yet to reach the 30's at night. I am beginning to wonder if they ever will lay. We have 15 chickens the same age and only two of them are laying.

I think climate has less to do with laying than the length of daylight; as days get shorter, without supplemental light, few of my girls produce anything. I adjust my diet accordingly as my girls take their winter "vacation." The exception is my Sapphire Gem sisters who slow down but continue to lay all through the year.

My May hatched ducks DID start laying, about a month and a half ago, and they're still laying. The eight of them have gone from two or three eggs/day to five or six eggs per day. I'm actually pretty amazed....

My appleyard waited to start laying until this spring, she was a may hatched duckling last year. Can’t complain though, she laid almost every day through the entire summer, only stopped because she went broody. The Swedish that I had started laying at the end of September last year, laid for a few weeks, then quit, and started back up in early March.
I wouldn’t necessarily worry too much about it, nor expect eggs til spring; if they do start laying for a bit now, great! But some seem to keep to the wilder timeline and wait til the following spring. Not sure what earlier hatched ducklings would do, but... 🤷🏼‍♀️
