Ok so I have 6 girls 5 mixed breed, 2 young pullets around 9 weeks, 2 older pullets around 4-6 months with pale comb, a 4-6 month hen, she had nice pink/tan eggs and an older unknown age rir that lays brown eggs 3-4 days with 1 day off. Now my question I live in Northern California, valley not mountain is getting cold at night (frost in the mornings) but still 50-70 during the day. And sun light is down to about 10 hours a day. This is our first flock and we were lucky to get some older pullets so close to laying. But being my first flock I know there is a greater chance the 4 pullets will choose not to lay until spring. Is there anyone that might be from Northern California that can give me in site to your flock routines? Honestly, I'm not worried just hopeful, these girls will feed my family of 5 and my mother's house of 3 and my house can go through 10 dozen a month so every egg will count. I do want to avoid artificial lights and though I hope they don't do expect an eventual cease laying through December and January. But like I said just some insist how someone else's hens behave and lay up this way.
