Hi, I am new to Colorado, and new to chickens. I want to get about four chickens and wondered if anyone knew the best chickens to get for the area, and cold weather in the winter. I do have a well trained dog and three 'not-so-trained' kids! But I think having chickens will also be a great learning opportunity for them--and me! Thanks in advance!

mypetchicken has a quiz to take to see which breed is best for you, if you would like to go give that a try!

You will have SO much fun with chickens!!

Although I don't live there now, I am from northern Colorado. Try Breeds Like Rd., Island red, New Hampshire read, wyandotte, australorp, barred rock. Easter egger. Basically chickens with small colmbs It gets cold there for extended periods of time, and there's always a couple weeks in the summer really hot but otherwise it's not bad weather. You will get snow though. And occasional rain and hail so make sure you build the coop strong. I actually miss the weather back there :)
