I've got 2 light brahmas, bought as pullets. One has a slightly darker comb than the other, and I've noticed now that when I'm near them the one that is a bit redder, her head turns red. When I talk to them, or go away for a bit then come back it goes back to being pale pink. Why does it do that, and why do I notice it with only one? I've only ever had darker birds, isa brown, rhode island reds. Is it something I'm just noticing it because they are fairer birds? I got back and forth on her looking like a boy or not. Would that maybe be why?

My Australorp hen's face changes color too, when she's about to and laying an egg. Maybe she's getting ready to lay?

There was a thread last week where this was mentioned. I know with my cockatiel, when she's happy her ceres (nostrils) are bright pink, sometimes red. Feet too. Many of us noticed our chicken's faces seem to do the same thing. Bright red when happy, paler otherwise. Interesting.
