I have too many roosters and have decided to sell a few. I bought some Plymouth Barred Rocks from Atwood's. This boy was supposed to be one but he looks nothing like the others. What is he?

Oh! I may keep this one then! He's gorgeous in person. I do have some younger sexlink hens that he could be put with!

Hi

Quote: You do realise that crossing a black sex link with a black sex link will not give you a black sex link, don't you?
ie. they are not a breed (but a hybrid) and will therefore not breed true or give you a sex linked chicks unfortunately..

He is absolutely stunning though and if he has a great temperament too, then I probably would keep him regardless of lack of breeding potential, although I'm quite partial to farmyard mutts anyway.

Hope I haven't totally burst your bubble

Regards

Barbara

Thank you. He's got a great temperment. He's only about 5 or 6 months old. I've never had a ex link before this year so they are new to me! :)

Agree with this.

If you put him over solid hens, half his chicks will be barred, regardless of gender. I had a bsl male for a few years and hatched lots of chicks from him, I loved the color variety I'd get in the offspring.
