ok, so being fed up with my current insurance company because every 6 months when my policy renews, there's 'a rate increase' i've begun to search for a new company. today i filled out one of those 'get a quote online' things, oh lord i'm ALREADY getting my email spammed like crazy. but....i didn't even have a minute pass from clicking the 'send' button before i got a call from an insurance carrier. so after going through my vehicles, and finding out they could save me 238 dollars over my current company, we started talking about my home owners insurance. i do the 'bundle' thing, it usually helps on rates, well to begin with anyway...but

when we were discussing the aspects of our home, she asked about pets, i told her i have 13 chickens, 'my pets make me breakfast'.....and was informed that because of the number of chickens i have, they could not insure my home! LMBO!!! she asked if the cocker spaniel had any attack training, i guess i should have made sure she knew the girls stay in the run, have never attacked anything but the unfortunate bug that makes the mistake of entering the run, in fact rarely ever even peck at each other.....

i just sighed and said i was sorry i'd wasted 20 minutes of my time on the phone with her! i won't post the name here, but if you want to know what insurance company it was pm me and i'll let you know! they do run national commercials, but they don't have any reptiles or goofy ladies as mascots......

For insurance purposes, I don't think it's wise to report chickens as "pets." They probably have rules that are meant to protect them in the event that someone owns a lot of dogs that could potentially hurt someone. The agent/caller probably didn't understand her firm's own policy guidelines. I'd suggest posting the name of the company so that we can all see how they do business. What reason would you have to keep it secret?

Quote:she kinda hinted that it might be considered a business? i mean i don't sell any eggs, YET, the 8 14 week olds aren't laying yet, and only 3 of my other 5 are laying, so we're pretty much eating what we're getting right now. BUT.... i realize even with 10 or 11 laying hens i'm going to get what, 6 or 7 eggs a day probably? so take out the dozen or so a week that we use ourselves, that's only gonna leave me what a couple dozen a week to sell, at best? so how many would qualify me as a 'business'????

as for posting the name, i'm not willing to list anything negative about a big company, even if it's true.
