Hi guys. OK, I am new here and, as mentioned in my introduction, ready to buy myself a small flock of chicken. I found on the web a seller here in the Los Angeles area. I was planning to go there on Sunday and see what he has and might buy some of his chickens.
BUT! Today I went to a feed store to buy more stuff to be ready for my new family members, I was told that here in the SoCal area it is illegal right now to sell/buy chicken due to a poultry disease. I surely don't want to start my new hobby by breaking the law. Anybody has any knowledge what this is all about? :)

    Thank you

    Udo

Yes,,,, unfortunately in your area there is an outbreak of Newcastle Disease.
here is a copy and paste of description.
Newcastle disease is an infection of domestic poultry and other bird species with virulent Newcastle disease virus (NDV). It is a worldwide problem that presents primarily as an acute respiratory disease, but depression, nervous manifestations, or diarrhea may be the predominant clinical form.

When things get under control, everyone will be raising chickens again.
Sorry to hear you are affected at this time. When there is a solution found,, things will improve for chicken keepers.
    WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and :welcome
