My neighbor just gave me 50 lb of oats for my chickns from a crop he grew just down the road from my house. (This came when I gave him a dozen eggs to endear him to my hens and my crowing rooster ---clearly it worked [IMG] ). I give my chickens scratch, a handful or so a day to give them something to do in the run. Any problem substituting the oats for the Purina scratch? Or is there a better way to use them?

Make them warm oatmeal on a really cold day...they will love you for it. Or mix it with warm mash.

My scratch mix is 50/50 whole oats and cracked corn. They love it. When they are done, they go clean up after the horses, so they eat their oats too.
