Odd protrusion on Silkie roosters foot

My Silkie roo Cotton has been assertive lately, so I’ve been flipping him on his side of upside f down to put him in his place.
When I did this today, I noticed an odd protrusion on his foot. The yellow part is somewhat plausible and flaky? The grey swelling with the yellow spot isn’t. It feels hard, not like there’s something inside it. Ideas?

I was guessing it has to do with feathers. Any thoughts as to what I should do?
