Eclipse shifted again in the tree hollow with a groan. She stretched her legs out as far they could go and readjusted her head against the wood. She had been restless ever since waking from her nightmare, shifting constantly throughout the morning in an attempt to get comfortable. She let out an annoyed huff and stood up, circling around the hollow, before flopping back down with her head resting on the edge, watching the clearing below. Apparently, the other Lunarwing was awake now. Eclipse watched her shift over to her side in the stream while she talked with Sunspot. The Solarwing looked relaxed, almost casual, and Eclipse narrowed her eyes suspiciously at the pair. She angled her ears in their direction, but she couldn't quite hear what they were saying.
I'll just watch, she thought, shifting again into a more comfortable position where she could still see the other two dragons. It wasn't quite noon yet, and if she couldn't fall back asleep--or Sunspot and the Lunarwing did something worthy of concern--she would consider leaving for the island early. But that would present its own problems. The Solarwing was extremely useful--she could be the key to completing Eclipse's life mission. But Eclipse didn't trust her. The night before, the Solarwing had said something about Eclipse being a "useful connection". She obviously didn't seem concerned as to whether or not Eclipse was injured or killed.
But Eclipse had to keep her close until their mission was complete. Which meant... possibly bringing her to the island. Eclipse hadn't worked out all the details. Of course, she was going to have to lie about the real reason for being there, but it was the safest route. She couldn't let any dragon know about what was really on that island. And she wanted to keep an eye on the Lunarwing--even if that meant she had to carry her, considering her injured wing. Besides, what would make her much better than the Nightwings, leaving an injured dragon to fend for herself? Besides, they were the same tribe. Despite the fact she had attempted to kill Eclipse, there was a mutual sense of loyalty toward the silver dragon. Lunarwings were rare enough, they had to protect what little was left of their race.
Eclipse's tail twitched slightly as she thought, watching the two converse in the clearing below.
