Great guesses everyone!

Before this goes any further I think I will give you a few hints so you can make the best guess. :)

All these feathers come from my last Black Australorp hen, Hilda.

Large bird that weighed in around 7.5 pounds, extremely broody. (Not sure broodiness has anything to do with her feathers, but any info may help here. :gig )

She was 8.5 yrs old, it was fall and she was raining feathers. I decided out of curiosity to save them, I mean who doesn't wonder just how many feathers are on a chicken! So I picked up every type of feather from under the roost bar, in the coop, out in the run and any that didn't blow away outside for nearly 2 months. There are contour feathers, primaries, tail feathers, downey feathers, itty bitty face feathers, neck and butt fluff, you name it, it's in this pile! And the pile is solid feathers, no tricks! The pile diameter is approximately 2 ft.

Now these are NOT ALL her feathers, she didn't molt them all, many got lost in the bedding, some got lost in the dust bath, blew away and possibly eaten!

So there you have it. And remember you get 5 guesses! Good luck!
Love the name Hilda!
