Here's a funny story for you. Knowing it's going to start getting cold at night I wanted to insulate the rooster coop a bit so they weren't too cold. It's a nice cool summer coop and probably the most glorious piece of crap you've ever seen. But I build it myself from pallets and recycled wood and it gets the job done as a rooster coop. I'd hoped to have had them re-homed by now but ya know no one wants roosters. Anywho I put some old corrugated signs from work on the side walls inside and a piece over the inside of the door hole with a hole for them to enter and exit through. Filled it with hay and waited for them to go to bed. Well when I went out lock the door I peeked in the small section of hardwire mesh at the top to make sure they were both inside and I can only see one snuggle in the hay in the back. I'm like where did the other one go. After looking around and not finding him I went back and ripped the false door off to see if he was hiding in there.... low and behold there he was under the hay practically under the other rooster having a secret snuggle:lau so I guess tomorrow I'll put the false door back inside the real door and put a little bell on that roo.

Oh sure. These are pre move in pictures when they were just in the roo jail during the day. I've made some alterations since then.

Isnt it a glorious piece of crap lol I make our dogs go in it and stink it up like dogs to hopefully keep any critter out.

Lol thanks. I just cant see killing them after I made the decision to let my hens hatch them. Then taking part in raising them and gaining their trust seems so wrong. They did nothing to deserve such a terrible fate. I'd just assume feed and house them until they die naturally. If I ever got rich building a rooster rescue would be at the very top of the list of where that money would go. Then all the unwanted or lost boys would have a safe and loving place to live. And maybe put a little money into researching how to hatch just hens or sexing in the egg. To help prevent unwanted roos.
