    Also known as pasty butt. Common in shipped chicks and brooded chicks where the temp is consistently on burning in hell...

    I think it is also a symptom of stress.

    The quote you have on the thread title came from the 20 years... Thread, I think there might be a fredshens explanation in there somewhere.

    One of our chicks got pasty butt after her first day out in a pen with sand. She gorged on it, and it stopped her up.
