So I got a live trap about a week back, and I haven't caught anything with it yet. I put sardines on a dish and marshmallows in there last night and I go to let my birds out just a minute ago and 2 of the marshmallows gone but nothing else. I'm pretty sure he must have reached through and grabbed them. Pretty sneaky. I was thinking of tying a piece of raw bacon around the wire or disguising the trap. Any recommendations for dealing with a trap-smart animal?

Go with larger bait, the mice are getting your bait. try a non meat bait so your not catching the neighbor's cat

I put some pieces of wood on the sides of the traps back where the bait goes.. that keeps them from reaching through the side of the trap to get the bait. Also make sure that the trap is staked down so they can't tip it over. I prefer marshmallows for raccoons so that way we dont end up catching one of the barn cats by mistake.
