My soon-to-be daughter in law talked to her granddaddy and he gave me his domineckers and leghorn hens! He is getting too old/sick to care for them so he is giving them to me. [IMG] I think its like 15 chickens in all. One dommie rooster and the rest hens, I think. [IMG]

He is also tossing in some sort of bantam rooster. Looks like my massacred flock just got replaced, lol. I'll be sending him lots of fresh eggs so he can still eat fresh, free eggs.

They should be here on Friday!

I'm sorry that the grandfather is no longer able to care for his chickens. However, it's good that he has someone in the soon-to-be family who can take them in. Looking forward to seeing the photos. [IMG]

They didn't say what was wrong with him. I think he is in his 80's and just too tired to care for them. He was really happy that they were coming here. I think he will be really happy to get eggs and not have to work for them, LOL. It'll make him feel really good to know he is helping to feed us and his granddaughter and great grandson!

I think some of that egg money is gonna go into the new grandbaby fund, lol. [IMG]

You made a reference to your 'massacred flock'. I take that to mean that your coop was violated by some predator. I hope that the 'access' has been corrected. I also recommend a device that I have found works wonders.

I works AFTER it is dark. It doesn't work while the coop can still be seen.

Awesome bird! I love those and they are such good mommies and daddies.

The flock was wiped out by a fisher weasel, a feral cat and then a danged stray dog. [IMG] They were free ranging mostly and the dog got them while in the pen. I forgot to latch the door one night. Ugh. There was body parts EVERYWHERE over an acre field. [IMG] It was terrible.
