Thanks for adding me to the site! I'm looking forward to learning from the pros and old-timers out there! I recently adopted a small flock of 1.5 yr old hens - 2 Chanteclers, 2 Barred Plymouth Rocks, a Sussex and an Easter Egger. Unfortunately, our friend's dog got one of the Chanteclers the first week they were with us... The dog is on the watch-list, and the birds are locked up when he's around! We just added a Gold-Laced Wyandotte cockerel, who has settled in just fine and is getting used to being the bottom of the totem pole LOL! Id like to add a few more hens - a Marans, maybe an Icelandic, and my daughter is after a Lavender Orpington. These birds are ADDICTIVE! How do you decide what breed to add? LOL!
Welcome to Backyard chickens. If you free range, you have to expect losses to predators - domestic or wild. The dog was successful, so he will always be looking for another chance to get them. That's how it is.
Hi and ! Sounds like you have a nice variety going there! Everyone on this site is so friendly, and if you ever have any questions, feel free to ask! Thanks for joining us!
Hi and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us. No need to decide on breeds IMO - just get 'em all! All the best Ct
