I feel like I am playing stump the experts with these "rescue" ladies. Anyway, here we go again.

Refresher/update~almost 4 weeks ago now I rescued 4 ladies from a very bad situation. They are all looking much happier and getting healthier. Even the girl with severe vent gleet is now on her 3rd day of Monistat and although she is still "leaking" a bit she is really getting spunky so I know she must be feeling better. (She never stopped laying).

My question now for all you knowledgeable folks is this. One of my ladies (they're roughly 1 1/2 yrs old) initially was laying eggs with with either extremely thin and/or rubbery shells. Considering what they came from it's a wonder they all weren't having problems like that. Anyway, I now get 3 to 4 eggs every day from them, however, once every few days (roughly slighly less than a week apart) now I find an egg in the same spot below the roost (there is a sawdust "catcher" directly under the perch) that was clearly dropped while she was roosting and is rubber shelled and smooshed. The following day I will find the usual nice, normal 4 eggs (hers are always HUGE!)

Anyone have any ideas? Is this something I should be concerned about? She did go from really bad egg, to slightly better egg, to thin but firm shell to normal egg in less than a week once she got some good feed in her and I started adding ACV to the water.

I have some ex-battery hens who've had egg problems of various sorts since I got them. First, one of them laid a couple of GIGANTIC eggs, then every so often I get a large thin, rubbery shelled egg from one of them (haven't figured out which one yet). I have wormed them all and they've put on weight and are looking better, plus they get plenty of calcium. I don't know what the problem is, but as long as they seem happy and healthy I'm not going to worry about it too much. I've had them for about 2-3 months now.

Haven't wormed the ladies yet. I plan to even tho they aren't showing any signs (watching close). I just wanted to wait until I got them built up a bit and got the one hen's gleet under control. That is next on the list tho.

I have a hen that does the exact same thing as your hen, and it's not an ex battery bird nor has it suffered ever. Some just have a few problems with the plumbing. Her eggs are often thin shelled and it's odd to me how she can pop out an egg with no shell yet lay a normal egg too on the same day.

It's just the way their plumbing is.

You mentioned the acv, are you supplementing with calcium/oyster shell? Even if your feed contains it in the mix you might offer some free choice. They won't over eat it and maybe she's just depleted.

yep. Have a feeder full of it so they can "snack" any time they want and I sneak some into their feed dish and even toss it into their run along with their scratch treat figuring they may gobble some up that way. No question these poor girls weren't getting enough of anything they needed to be healthy. Now, I have to quit spoiling them!
