Ok, so our midget white is too big for a midget any more.

Well, we have what we have thought all along is a midget white female turkey. Even the judges at the county fair declared that's what she was. But everything we've read says they stay under 15 lbs or so and our girl is working on 20 lbs. Is the beltsville white a little bigger than the midget white? I'll try to post a pic later today. Any ideas as to what she is would help as we are looking for a mate for her. Thanks.

She's way over weight for a Beltsville. Probably a White Holland or possibly one of the commercial types.

There are many backyard breeder who are not sure what they have. Most hatcheries don't even breed their own turkeys. They get their eggs from small farms. How old is your hen? She could even be a BBW.

depends on how big she is, or if it's even a she... but it doesn't take very long for a BBW to reach 20 lb...

I highly doubt they have a BBW- one main reason.. they don't reproduce naturally-- and just any ole joe blow can't make them.

We're leaning towards a white holland now. She's not big enough for a BBW. My husband finally actually weighed her and she was 17 lbs. We got her from McMurray's in a package with other birds so they didn't tell us what she was but when she was in the fair at 6 months the judge and superintendent both insisted that she was a midget white. At 17 lbs she could be a white holland without an issue and they are very similar from what I can tell. We just love mysteries ... [IMG]

Next year we are ordering from the feed store so we can get just a few of exactly what we want without spending a fortune in shipping or having a minimum of 15 birds. [IMG]
