My spouse and I own a brewery and we always have a lot of spent grain from brewing beer. Can the chickens have some of the spent grain and hops to eat? Thanks for any info!

Grain is grain, I suppose...is there any alcohol in it? Birds and animals certainly eat fermented fruit in the wild...

I would give them some, and see how they react. Regulate the amount so they don't get snockered [IMG]

It's totally fine and no there's no alcohol as you're using grain that's been sparged or steeped to start your wort. No alcohol comes into play until after first fermentation.

I don't know how much nutrition is left in the grains as I have never looked into it, but please note that you wouldn't want to feed it if it is moldy.

    Moldy feed can kill chickens.

I homebrew also and am planning on at least giving the chickens some of the spent grain. I make bread a dog biscuits out of them also. Just be careful because, as I'm sure you know, the grains can go sour pretty quickly...
