Okay people, prove me wrong

Hello people,

Am I correct that to sex a coturnix quail, you can squeeze the vent once they have reached sexual maturity, and the males will have a foamy white substance?

I tried with the feathers, I failed dismally.

Prove me wrong, but I don't want to be!

Never done it myself but that's how it's done. What variety of quail do you have? Sexing browns and goldens is very easy by breast feathering. A big plus for those two types.

I have browns for sure, and a blondish one that I would call golden (?) but I never could figure it out. Squeezing the vent and if bubbly stuff comes out, leg band it. Or wing band. Whichever you prefer

The foamy stuff will only be there if its a roo in breeding mode. As its the off season he may not be "foamy". if they are browns and goldens color sex them. check out the sticky post at the top of the page for pics and info!
