An Island in Maine
Hello All,

I have been a member here on Backyard Chickens before but decided to start again. I have 8 chickens-4 Barred Rocks and 4 Ameracaunas. So we typically get 5-8 (four tan, four bluish/green) eggs a day here in the very, very cold state of Maine. We have about 1.5 feet of snow in the backyard currently with another 8-12 forecast for Wednesday. The poor girls don't know what to do! Their coop is lit which provides a little heat and their 12 hours of light a day-so they seem to be happy. If we get a mild day (you know 30 degrees) I let them out but they don't wander too far:D My hubby started out with" those are your chickens!" and now he likes them just as much as all the rest of us (3 kids and an australian cattle dog).
