only issue I have is they're battery birds. I've got no problems eating a layer past her prime. Do it all the time. My kids do as well. You just cook it a little different.

    [IMG] I agree!

They've used old hens to make baby food for years and, until recently, been fed to feedlot cattle too

Quote:No problem eating them either! Makes excellent chicken noodle soup!

Look at Campbell's chicken noodle soups, they are made from battery hens too!

I guess my only issue would be the bones splintering. I plan on eating mine past their prime.

I don't think theres anything really wrong with eating the older ladies. After a couple of years they don't lay as well and instead of just culling them, at least they aren't wasting them....

Where is the shaking head smilie?

Good lord, they make it sound so terrible. Its just chicken, just a little older. [IMG] I'd much rather they be eaten then tossed. Im sure the millions of starving people in our world would sure love a few old hens to eat.
