We received a bag of pine shavings from a friend, they say it has been sitting outside for a while, and that they dont use it. Would it still be ok to use for our brooder? It looks clean withuot any mold or bugs, but im still not too sure, so im asking for some advice or suggestions. Anyone?

cant see how bad it could be unless you are seeing signs like termites or insects. Open it up and see if there is anything suspect? If so get rid of it. Wood holds up a very long time.

If they've been outside for a long time are they damp? Run your hands through them and take a look? Are they still dry and bright colored? If so then go ahead and use them. If they're dull colored, going grayish, feel damp or smell musty then don't use them with your chicks.
