Well they aren't exactly puppies I don't think. I have Nala which I have had since she was 9 weeks old. She is now 4 yrs old. She is a shiba inu. Now for the long story.
I was on my was yesterday morning to take my kids to school. I noticed a neighbor on one side of the road and a dog in the middle of the road. I stopped and asked if it was hers and what was going on. She said it was a stray and was with another dog but he had been hit by a car and wasn't doing good. I put my car in park get out and somehow manage to convince the dog to come to me. I picked her up hoping she doesn't bite me and toss her in my car and get in quick so she doesn't escape. All the while hoping. She doesn't attack my kids. Get the kids to school and get back home. Grab a leash and give her a bath cause she stinks like dirty dog. I don't think they were loose long as they weren't covered in mud or anything nasty out here. No fleas no ticks. However she is skin and bone a good 10 pounds under weight if not more. Her muzzle is swollen as are her paws and she is in pain. She is terrified of even the refidgerator. She jumps out of her skin. I checked CL for an owner and looked for signs and nothing. So she is now a member of our family providing she is not chipped. She looks to be about 2 yrs old. I will be taking her to the vet Monday I hope to have her checked for a chip. I would love to take her sooner but my schedule won't fit it any sooner. So for now she has a nice warm dry place to sleep at night and food in her belly.

    Now for pictures.

She appears to be a young Catahoula leopard dog. You were brave putting her in your car. Hopefully she's okay and she adapts wells to your family. Thank you for helping her.

She has been a sweetheart. She puts her head in our hands and she just melts. We have lots of crazy dangerous animals out where I live in the middle of nowhere and I love dogs and saw how skinny and awful she looked and am glad I took the risk. She is slowly starting to wag her tail and is awesome with the kids she sticks to them like velcro. She hasn't growled or snapped at anyone at all. When I picked the kids up from school I had them wait outside so I could bring her out to meet them cause I had been home alone with her all day and didn't want her to think they were intruders. Same when my husband came home. I had her outside when he got home also to make sure she wasn't afraid of men and didn't react bad. She was perfect and did great. I just hope her sweet demeanor doesn't go away as she starts feeling better.

Took her to the vet to get scanned for a microchip and she doesn't have one. Monday she will go in for a full check up and shots and whatever else needs done. Forgot to ask the vet how old they think she is so the suspense continues until Monday lol. Got my fingers crossed she doesn't have heartworms.

I wish there was more info online about this breed of dog. Seems like for as old as the breed is not much is known.

Catahoula was what I thought she is as well. She was so small and frail I wasn't concerned for my safety. My kids were safe in the back as I had a hold on the scruff of her neck. Can't stand seeing animals suffering. If they are catchable I catch them and find their owners or new homes.

I too will break for strays, thankfully around here they are hard to come by, just twenty years ago it was a different story.

All I know about Catahoulas is that it's a hunting dog, created in the south used mostly for pig hunting, and for some herding. They can be protective, but very affectionate, similar I think to a Rottweiler, where they need a calm dominant owner, which by the look of your other dog you must be, because that one looks to be a mix of Akita or husky type which can also be bull headed. From your photo she appears more young than underweight, but it is a photo, they eventually weigh around 50 pounds, my guess would be that she's around 1-2 years old, looking at the teeth can help pin it down. Hopefully she's healthy. Heartworms are terrible and so easy to prevent. Good luck your way.

Nala is a Shiba Inu. They I believe originate from Japan. Along the lines of an Akita just much smaller. She weighs a whopping 10 pounds lol. I'm more bullheaded than the dogs and patient so I always win. Just need to teach her a few basic commands and all will be great.
Thanks for you bit of info as well. I was also thinking she was around 2/3. Come Monday I will post and let ya know. I will post a closer pic of her face and try to get teeth pics later for anyone else who wants to venture a guess :)

    Forgot a pic

That's an adorable face, and you did say your other one was a Shiba Inu, so you are used to that type of personality, so sorry about that. She is a nice looking dog, what a great gift.

Well just got back from the vet. She is between 1 1/2 to 2 years old. Weighs 37 pounds but should be in the 50s. Has an ear infection in both ears and has hookworms and whipworms if I remember right. Was heartworm negative and a few other tests were run and they were negative as well. She is officially microchiped and in the next couple months will be getting spayed.
