Anyone have an educated guess? I got this egg I hatched from a girl who said it would either be an olive Egger or an Easter Egger. I thought she was a girl by her temperament and look. This chick is about 14 weeks old but now & her black feathers are shiny and oily showing green and blue, I read that girl astrolorps still have the oily looking feathers and I was wondering if anyone would say that would be true for an olive Egger or Easter Egger?

Pullet.

As nuthatched said, all black birds will have some form of sheen. Some green, some blue, some even have purple.

I'd guess Easter Egger, both birds aren't really breeds, they've been bred for their beautiful eggs. To get an olive green egg-laying chicken, you'd need to cross a blue egg layer with a dark brown egg layer. I have some Olive Egger pullets who have dull 'barred' coloring, and poufs on their heads! I'm guessing a Legbar x Cuckoo Maran..?

I have a 5 to 6 week old OE that is making me suspect she is a he. Is it too early? Wattles are starting to develop and look red/ pink. The comb looks more pink in person than how it shows up in photos. The feet are feathered but look chunky and buff underneath the fluff. She is very shy around me though. I know one of her parents was a Copper Maran not sure what the other parent was. Any guesses would be appreciated!!
