Hi all,

I'm wondering if I'll get any Olive Eggers out of my current group of birds?

I have an EE roo and the hens are:

EE
Ameracauna
Barred Rock
Production Red

Thanks!

An EE rooster over a Production Red or Barred Rock hen will likely give you a daughter that will lay moderate to dark green eggs. At least at the beginning of the lay cycle. Towards the end they'll grow lighter as any olive egger will.

Does your EE rooster have a pea comb? If so, he is more likely to pass on the blue-egg gene which mixed with your brown egg layers, should give you some nice green egg layers.

On the olive-egger thread, I learned that a blue egg layer crossed with a very dark brown egg layer (Marans, Barnevelder, Wellsummer) is what you need for the true "olive" colored eggs.

I have two Ameraucana x Cuckoo Marans. Hope to see some type of green eggs soon - and am anxiously awaiting to see if they are truly olive!

Aren't chickens fun?
