Hi all! I got my first hens November 2017, they were already laying so I have no experience with chicks. I now have 4 ×6week old chicks we got as eggs and allowed my broody hen to hatch. I know it's hard if not impossible to know for sure, but I'm open to any guesses or insight! The black and white speckled one I'm almost certain is a roo, but he's also the smallest, slowest to feather and friendliest. What do you all think?!

Two and three are almost definitely male, especially three (that's a Barred Rock unless you know they're mixed, in which case the color is still called Barred, or Cuckoo). One and four could be slower maturing males, or faster maturing pullets.

FYI.....semantics, maybe, but can be important communication terms when discussing chicken behavior.

Female chickens are called pullets until one year of age, then they are called hens.

Male chickens are called cockerels until one year of age, then they are called cocks(or cockbirds or roosters).

Age in weeks or months is always a good thing to note.
