We just received one Rhode Island Red and two Ohio Buckeyes. They are one day old. One OB and the RIR are running, eating and drinking. The other OB is sleepy, has no interest in eating or drinking and only wants to peck the other two. She has enough energy to bother the other two! Should I worry? Again, they are only 24 hours old, no pasty butt and her eyes are bright. Thanks so much.

try giving here sugar or honey water, some folks add some cider vinegar too, Murray Macmurray's hatchery has a recipe on their website under "caring for your chicks when they arrive, the little one might be experiencing some stress and shock.

If they're only 24 hours old, let her alone. Just before hatching they absorb that entire yolk, which allows them to not need to eat or drink for up to 48 hours. Nature designed them that way so first hatched chicks wouldn't starve while momma stays on the nest to let the latecomers hatch out. Sounds like she's active and alert, just watch her. I mean, look at how big she is, and look at how big an egg yolk is. She's stuffed!
