One eyed chicken

    My rooster eye is swollen shut, so i quarantined him. Then washed his eye out with warm water. A big white chunk came out. Please tell me it wasnt his eye, it had black on the back side of it. I then neospron his eye. Please help what is wrong with him. He eats and is active:(

    I'm no chicken expert but I've treated just about every other type of animal, you have already done exactly what I would do. Shy of taking it to the vet, your choice. But I would wait it out until the swelling goes down and see what you can see. Unless it starts to go down hill in any way. I'm not sure about chickens but I've met so many one eyed animals and a few blind ones who have adjusted to it just fine if worse comes to worse. [​IMG]

    I would leave him be, either he has an eye or he doesn't. When the swelling goes down you will know. Was he fighting? Sometimes they get fowl pox which will cause eyes to swell shut. I wouldn't be washing or putting stuff in his eye, just let nature heal it.

    Thank you for your reply. Was hoping i did right and not make things worse. Will check him in the morning and hope he looks better.
