So... I have 5 girls total and one rooster (which I can't keep much longer.) 2 of the girls are 20-wks old and one is laying. The eggs are daily, smallish, and have thick shells. The other girls are about 16-wks old. And the rooster is the same age. He's only just started crowing. I don't want to hurt him or the young girls by switching to layer feed too early. I just ran out of Nature's Best Organic Chick Crumbles from Tractor Supply (the only feed store I can easily get to.) Should I just get another bag of chick starter? I have oyster shell and put it out one day--everyone had to check it out. And about layer feeds... Is DuMor (which I believe is formulated by Purina) a good feed? It seems to be a best seller. Is Purina Layena appreciably better? It's a bit more expensive and I can't seem to find an ingredients list.

I hadn't considered all flock. The protein is higher? Is there a brand you recommend from TS?

Brands may vary by location. At my local store is nutrena all flock pellet and Purina flock raiser crumble. Both are 20% protein. I prefer the flock raiser as it is almost always fresher and I just prefer crumble.
