One of my hens was making meowing noises???

    Mine do that too, haven't figured out what it means. They really do have some interesting sounds, don't they.

    Broody hens often sound rather like cats when approached.

    Purring, growling and honking are among their vocabulary that I've noticed. When they start barking back at the dogs, I'll be concerned.

    One of my hens purrs. And my Barred Rock roo balks kinda cute but I can't explain how it sounds.​

    Mine purr. But mine also sound like gurgling aliens when you peek in on them when laying. They also growl/meow like a cat. Usually it's more like a "REEWWWWAAAAARRR". Kind of a cross between a roar and a meow, haha.
