So, I see alot of people that become very upset about the way they are kept, and quiet honestly I get sick to my stomach when I see tractor trailer full of chickens stuffed in little crates to me taken to slaughter, or wherever they are going..

One of the reasons I spend so much time and money into making a huge area for my chicks to run and flap their wings and chase bugs around in, is to makeup for the fact they all could be have their heads chopped off any second during the day. I also know alot of people like reality setters will say, "Well you eat chicken don't you?" And my answer is always, "Yes, but I do." But that is doesn't excuse the fact I dont think animals should be kept in lock down, and do nothing but constantly eat to get fat, the killed without a feeling of remorse.

My grandfather is native american, I was raised with wolves, hawks, owls, watched my grandmother tame bobcats, mom fed coons and possums on porch, and I had a pet crow who injured his wing and I babied him for about a month, and when it was time to let him go he just sat on my shoulder and let me pet him for the longest time, and then about 30 minutes went by he took off.

I think every animal should be treated with respect. Not, "-insert your belief here- put you here, so you could sustain human needs/wants."

Cause maybe they are here as consumption for us, but it's still a life, and they still want to play and feel the wind in their feathers the same way we want to feel it through are hair on cozy warm days. I just think life should be respected, or maybe im just a little delusional from the way I was raised?

    What are thoughts about this?

I hate the way they are kept in factories for laying and farms for meat..[IMG]. I feel bad even when I have to put my chickens in there LARGE coop earlier then usual.

I agree commercial chickens, whether laying or for meat are kept in sub- standard conditions; the question remains, how would you suggest farmers change their methods? If commercial farmers are forced to provide their flock/herds with housing that the average citizen thinks is optimal, the cost of dairy and meat products will become so expensive the average person will not be able to buy them.

Quote:/ Yes very valid point. It is such a controversial subject. It just upsets that the animals we slaughter are generally kept in a very tight, tight space and fed fattening products. It just seems so cruel.. but at the same time, the cost of living is just insane, and I know not everyone cause live on a farm or even have enough land for a few chickens. I just wish there was better ways.

And here is the unpopular opinion....
Do you really need them? How is it fair that they have to go through all that they go through, so you can eat meat and dairy whenever you feel the urge to have some? Should it really be so easy? It seems because of all this factory farming people have gotten used to flesh being eaten nearly every day, and those who do not get them are deficient or deprived. That really does not seem very necessary, fair, or realistic.
Just an opinion on a topic that everyone thinks has such an elusive answer...

The average person could always raise their own then! We are all proof of that. I mean obviously apartment livers couldn't but many more people than are could!

OP I agree with you 100%!
