On the MN prairie.
I got home about 10:00 tonight, found out that DH hadn't had a chance to shut the chicken coop in the barn and went out to do so. The dog went with me as always, going into the barn ahead of me (this always makes me a little nervouse since I don't know what he's going to find - really don't want him surprising a skunk!). When I went in with my flashlight, he was sniffing the air and on alert. Shined the light into the coop, and there was a possum! Dog went in after it and got it out of the barn. It was a younger one, not nearly as big as the one in the garage a few weeks ago. Anyway, it won't be a problem anymore.

Good doggie!

I've had a possum in the coop before too, he was real happy taken up a nesting box and eating the eggs! Everytime I open the door to my coop, I go alot slower now on the lookout for one! Neighbor shot ours so I know he will not return!!
Hope yours doesn't come back!!

After the dog got him out of the barn, DH shot it. I wouldn't want to stick my hand in a nest box and find one! Glad your neighbor took care of it for you.

Today around noon there was a possum in my back yard walking real slow and trying to find a hiding place. He finally climbed over the fence and went away. I wonder if he was sick, or do they walk slow? Will they kill my chickens?

Opossums are slow. Ever notice how many are road-kill? They don't get out of the way very fast.

Also, during the day, when they are moving around because they've been discovered, AND if they are young, they're very hesitant and they move slowly so you have a chance to forget you saw them at all.
