Hello all
So my two Pekins (pictured) are 2 months old and they are almost certainly one female and one male. Need to order 3 females to get the numbers right.
My last post someone mentioned size of the breed of females to order...
I was hoping to order from Metzer:
2 Cayuga female
1 silver Appleyard

Are these breeds adequate size for the Pekin male? I am unable to weigh him but he is just slightly larger than the female. So I'm not worried about her except that more females will be necessary.

Any and all thoughts/ help is appreciated. I'm hoping to order them today/tomorrow to get the process going.

Oh, interesting! We have the exact same scenario! We took in a pair of Pekins someone had brought home for their kids and then abandoned within the first week when (big surprise!) their kids didn’t take care of them 😡
Turns out we have one hen & one drake, so we will need some more ladies to keep our drake occupied. I’d love Cayugas, but I’m concerned about the size difference. Maybe Silver Appleyards would be better? I don’t want him to hurt a smaller hen! We’d be getting the ducklings from Metzer, as well. 😊
We’ve kept chickens for 10+ years now, but these are our first ducks. We’re semi-suburban so we’ve only ever had female birds. Not sure what to expect.

People leave pet ducks at parks, it angers me so much 😰

Its really awful how common that is.

When people ask whats so wrong with dying chicks, its not usually the fact of dying the chick *as long as you do it right, its not awful in my opinion* however, so many people mass produce dyed chicks to pawn off and sell to little children for easter, and then they end up returning them or killing them because they get bored.

Its so sad how common this is with animals, and how they‘re treated this way.

*Also, everyone has opinions on coloring chicks. I would never color mine, i think their stunning the way they are, but im not trying to start a dye debate since people all have their own opinions. Its just again another awful scenario of using them as little toys and then getting rid of them after their excitement fades after a few hours.*

Ordered 2 Cayuga and 1 Silver Appleyard(all female) from metzer 2 weeks ago.
They arrived very healthy and are doing great. I didn't know what to expect but am very glad I did it. Attached pics of day of arrival, so 2-3 days old to today, about two weeks old so can see their sizes.
I will add pics every two weeks ish if you haven't ordered yet so we can see how big they are compared to the pekin, especially Niles the male
