    Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to our flock. What breeds are best for you depends on what your priorities are for your chickens. Murray McMurray has an excellent "chick selector" tool at https://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/chick_selector.html to help you determine which breeds are best for you. Just be sure and click on "show more characteristics." Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your flock.

    Welcome to BYC! [IMG]I'm glad you joined.

    Good luck with your future flock! Rhode Island Reds should be very good layers for you- I have one, and she's been an excellent layer.

    Congratulations! I just started with chickens last october! Here's a couple tips;

    -Make sure to get a steady water and food supply ALWAYS!
    -If you're getting laying hens,and putting them on a laying feed supply, only 10% of their daily diet should be kitchen treats,(unless its a special occasion)[IMG]
    -If you want to bond to them for the first time,Pick them up by taking both hands and put thumbs over wings so they won't flap, then your fingers should be touching near breast bone. Then stroke the waddles.
    -always isolate sick chickens.
    -Have FUN with your chickens!!!
