On Thursday I'm going down to a local feed store to get two more ducks and I read on their calendar that they will be getting in some chicks from Ideal's "Oriental Assortment".

Are these breeds safe to keep in a mixed breed flock or will they fight everything to the death? I've read conflicting things about some of these breeds.

If they were the real varieties of the birds that are advertised, some of them would not get along without a hen present to keep the peace from the time they were a few days old. They don't do much serious damage until they are four or five months old but you wouldn't want to brood them with a bunch of silkie chicks, either. Seeing as how they are in the business of dumping a bunch of chicks in a box and shipping them across the country to be raised in an artificial brooding system, I can hardly believe that they have real gamefowl.

    Interesting.
Are OEGBs considered gamefowl? I have two OEGB hens from a breeder and they are the only two birds I've ever owned that didn't come from a hatchery. They definitely stand up for themselves!

OEG bantams are not really considered gamefowl by any credible sources. They have a lot of other blood in them and pretty much just the color of the standard OEG. That is not to say that you won't run into a tenacious one every now and then.
