Hello!
I ordered some chocolate silver laced Orpington hatching eggs and was successful in hatching almost all! To my surprise, they are different colors. One in particular I wasn’t expecting to be a color to get. Can anyone identify the little red Orpington chicks color?
I’ve scoured the internet and cannot find a comparison.
*The little black one is not an Orpington*
Thanks in advance!
Maddie

I had two different colors in my Silver Chocolate Laced Orpingtons, too! When I messaged the seller, she told me some variation is expected. It could still be the same variety, but since it is a "new" color there will be some differences. For what it's worth, the darker chick is a pullet and the lighter one is a cockerel. (These pics were taken in October when they hatched)

Thanks! I messaged the seller and was told there could be all white cockerels due to the genetics… I can’t tell if the lighter ones are going to be white. It seems even the white Orpington chicks display different chick colors…

Update on the Chocolate Silver Laced Orpington chicks. One week old and here is what I have observed.
Pics 1-6 hatched on 1/26. (pic 7 was hatched on 1/28) (pic 6 black chick is not an -Orpington)
1. Black chick is feathering out faster than all.
2. All Orpingtons are feathering out at the same rate except pic 3
3. I suspect pic 3 is a cockerel. (possibly white)
4. My observations make me believe I have 5-6 pullets (pic 1, 2, 4, 5, 6?, 7) and 1-2 cockerels (pics 3, 6?)

I don't know if slow feathering is necessarily an indicator of being a boy. Mine feathered out at the same rate, and my pullet was actually a little slower molting into her "teenage" feathers than the boy.

The darker one is the pullet
