One of our girls went broody and she successfully hatched one egg. He's about 4 days old now and doing great. She's been a wonderful mother and so far he's done well in the flock, she's done a wonderful job of keeping an eye on him and protecting him from any other chickens that get to close for her comfort. We know from the color of his egg that his mother is one of our Red Sex Links (the one that went broody is our only Partridge Rock but her eggs are lighter in color than the RSL) and since we only have 3 roosters (2 Old English Game Bantams and a Cochin Bantam) and the baby has feathered feet, his daddy is our Cochin Bantam. So he's a Red Sex Link x Cochin Bantam cross. Can't wait to see how he/she matures - hoping it's a hen but will stick around if it's a rooster too - anyone seen a Red Sex Link x Cochin Bantam cross before, or something similar? Would love to see how he/she might look when they get older :)

    Here's some pics from today

Can't help with what it will look like when it grows up, but have to comment on how darn stinking cute it is. That is an awesome photo of mom and chick out and about, looks like it will be spoiled for sure.

Best to you and your birds,

    RJ

He's about 5 days old now and doing fantastic, his momma is doing a wonderful time taking care of him and protecting him. Here is a picture of him taking a piggy back ride (he does this sometimes, jumps on her and snuggles into her feathers when she lays down and when she gets up he goes for a ride). I keep saying 'he/his' but hoping it's a girl :) Either way I'll be happy though, It's our first ever 'homebred' chick :)
